Even if I had seen the raving reviews here, I was waiting for the UK release, which I bought as soon as it was out and was extremely disappointed to see it was 1080i. I then ordered this version and the difference in quality is tremendous. Only 1080p does justice to this magnificent documentary. DO NOT BUY THE UK VERSION, BUY THIS ONE. However be warned: You will face significant customs/postal charges. I paid an extra 15 for this, although compared to the 1080i abomination, I do not regret a single penny.
great item but termith is very bad and import tax? August 3, 2007

its one of the greatest tv programe ever been made. and its absolute top condition in blue ray. every detail is clear as naked eye.
my problem was the seller termith is very bad costumer service and it took under 5 weeks to recive it. not to mention 15 import tax. which hurts .
it works fine on ps3 but it didnt work on blueraydvd player.
if you fan of the show its must buy but avoid termith and just wait for uk date. its out soon. hope that helps

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with buying the US release of Planet Earth, but if you aren't desperate for it, I recommend you wait until 11/10/2007 for the UK release. According to the BBC Shop, the UK version includes an extra disk with special features (total 5 disks).
Just something to consider.

The picture clarity is staggering throughout the series. I've shown this to people who are normally not impressed by documentaries, and every single person has been instantly hooked.
Each scene shows a few minutes of landscape followed by a few minutes of animals located there. How they got some of this footage I'll never know. Close ups of prey evading (and being caught by) predators, mating dances, migration journeys of survival... this is awe-inspiring.
As mentioned in the other reviews, this works fine on my PAL PS3 when imported from Amazon.com. There was no customs charge for my copy.
