5 out of 5 stars Dark, dangerous, and downright funny.   November 5, 2008

As soon as i finished watching season 1, I ordered this region 1 dvd from amazon.
The first year bowled me over as a piece of great, original television unfolded before my eyes. I wasn't sure it could get any better, but it did.

Season 2 takes us on a more complete journey into the minds and lives of the characters. The show stays true to what made it so good, but adds greater depth and creativity; everyone seems to be on a mission to find themselves, or are at least trying to recapture who they think they are.
Dexter's life becomes much more complex as his web of ever increasing lies constantly threatens to come undone and wreck the lives of almost everyone. A special mention should go to all the suppoting cast, especially Jennifer Carpenter, who plays Deb. Her story was great and she acted her socks off.
The whole show seems to have taken a step up in every way and has really started to mature. Fantastic writing keeps this ahead of most other dramas, and with the work that follows, it allows us to enjoy a uniquely entertaining piece of television.
Dark, dangerous, and downright funny at times, I wasn't disappointed with a single minute of a single episode. TV doesn't get any better than this.

5 out of 5 stars Dangerously Delightful Dexter   September 4, 2008

The original season of 'Dexter' became a landmark in Showtime programming, and really put their name on the proverbial map. The dark, witty and - at the same time - vicious serial killer became a character to both cheer for and love. Despite initial statements declaring there would be no second series, the requests of the fans were eventually heard and Dexter's back in all his glory for 12 more darkly delightful episodes!

As in Season 1, 'Six Feet Under' star Michael C. Hall wonderfully plays Dexter Morgan, a Miami PD blood analyst who also happens to be a serial killer of serial killers. Trained by his adopted father, Harry Morgan, he was moulded from a young age into a perfect killer, and one that finds it against his moral code to kill those other than his fellow killers. However this time around he seems to have slightly adjusted his character to make our favourite serial killer/ MPD blood analyst even more interesting than before - Dexter has begun to feel some emotions, and is entangled in a difficult love situation (it's not as bad as it sounds) that can actually result in you resenting him for moments. However it is not only Hall who makes the show worth watching, as an amazing cast of other characters allows for multiple plots to exist whilst actually keeping you interested. Angel, Deb, Doakes and Maria have all returned for the second outing, and each has their own story to tell, however there are multiple additions that add a little more to the already superb show.

Whilst the first season dealt with Dexter's conflict regarding his admiration for the Ice Truck Killer and his desire to stop his opponent's work short, season 2 affects Mr. Morgan much more personally as his own 'night time hobby' begins to surface...in the Miami bay. As was the case in the first season, season 2 also keeps you guessing and wanting to watch more and more; it's multiple twists and turns are what truly make 'Dexter' what it is. You can't actually guess what will happen, but you will try nonetheless.

'Dexter' remains one of the most darkly humorous shows on TV, and season 2 easily matches the original. With a complex plot that will make you want to find out more each time an episode ends, and a list of characters that you will care about - no matter what their relationship and/ or view on Dexter is - it is a show that needs to be watched by everyone.

A highly recommended DVD of one of the best TV crime dramas I've seen in a long time, although to truly enjoy it I would advise first watching season 1.

PLEASE NOTE: This is only available on Region 1 at the moment, and therefore can only be played on a Multi Regional DVD player.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - again!   August 18, 2008

I borrowed this second series from a friend and started watching them on Saturday morning. By the evening I had finnished the whole series - I just couldn't tear myself away. In this series, all Daxters earlier handywork surfaces (quite literally) and Miami PD find themselves on the hunt for the Blue Bay Butcher.

For any Dexter fans that saw the first series - all the same cast is in this. Deb (who is trying to come to terms with being the ex-finacee of the ice-truck killer), Angel, Maria, Rita and the children and the fantastic Doakes. James Doakes plays a much bigger part in series 2 as he trails Dexter and becomes more and more suspicious of him.

There is also the introduciton of a major new part in this series in the form of Lila, an English temptress who is his sponsor at counselling (and who has huge issues of her own).

Watching Dexter's world unravle around him as more and more bodies are found and identified and the Police and FBI close in on him is gripping. At the end of each episode I was desperate to know what happened next. If possible, this was even better than series one.

5 out of 5 stars Compelling   June 22, 2008

I've just finished watching this series and thought it was absolutely fantastic. Far, far better than the first series (which was pretty good) the script is much more dramatic, far less predictable and intensely dramatic. You really see the monster that Dexter is in as the series progresses. Often, as in the first series, you are rooting for Dexter. However, in some episodes your sympathies will shift as you see past Dexter's mask, revealing the dangerous psychotic coming apart at the seams. A Highly recommended purchase.
