5 out of 5 stars ROGUE HERO   November 24, 2008

Dexter is a blood spatter specialist working for the police. His skills help to find murderers and solve crimes.

Dexter is also a serial killer. He uses his crime solving skills to rid the world of those who deserve to die. Unfortunately for his guilty victims, Dexter enjoys his hobby.

I love the sound track, the acting, and the stories.

This is an off beat but brilliant series, which brings serial killing into mainstream entertainment. Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars "I'm a very neat monster."   September 4, 2008

Here we go again. Another CSI clone. Haven't we seen this all before? Well actually, not quite. There is nothing quite like Dexter.

Dexter Morgan (played by the outstanding Michael C. Hall) is a blood splatter analyst who likes nothing more than a bucket of blood at a crime scene. Dexter is also a serial killer, or occasional killer, who kills the criminals who escape justic by administering some of his own.

Dexter was a troubled boy, adopted as a toddler and gaining a sister (with whom he now works along side) and brought up by an honest cop, who realised that Dexter was no ordinary thinking boy. Using knowledge and techniques shown to him by his father, Dexter has forged a 'career' as a very tidy and neat monster, as well as being a brilliant forensic analyst.

When attending a crime scene in sunny Miami, Dexter is shocked to be told that there is no blood for him to savour here. With surgical precision, a body is dismembered and almost presented perfectly, waiting to be discovered. Neatly wrapped body parts leave Dexter with a challenge - to improve his own killing technique and to find who becomes known as 'The Ice Truck Killer'.

There are many more twists and turns as the story unfolds and we discover much more about Dexter, and that he is an emotionless character much of the time, and very quiet, almost to the point of becoming an outcast and occasionally exploding in a crescendo of violence. Despite the madness and murder, Dexter has gained respect from most of his collegues whilst hiding the fact that he has a murderous evening and weekend job. Of course there is dark humour to lift the mood slightly, only before letting the viewer plunge back into the hellish psyche of the Miami serial killer division.

Dexter is a meticulously crafted modern television masterpiece, eclipsing our very own 'Waking The Dead' and leaving a bitter sweet taste in the mouth that leaves you wanting so much more.

5 out of 5 stars A Refreshingly Original and Must See Series   June 22, 2008

On first glance, Dexter seems like just any other crime show filled with gruesome murders and horrible criminals. In fairness, many elements of the show are familiar: the show centres around a group of police officers and forensics, there are lots of nasty criminals and even nastier murders that are investigated.

However, Dexter is a crime show with a difference. The main character, Dexter Morgan (played by the excellent Michael C. Hall) is a forensic who not only finds and captures the people responsible for the crimes he's investigating: he kills them too. At the beginning of the series, it is revealed that Dexter was adopted at a young age after his parents' death and that he had a penchant for killing animals in his youth. His adopted Father - a policeman - finds out about this and tells him that if he ever feels tempted to kill anything bigger, he should only go after those who he feels deserve to die. To this end, Dexter only kills people who he sees as bad, i.e. the murderers he encounters on a daily basis.

The series is very original and Dexter's narrative throughout each episode is both funny and macabre. The series in general is filled with black humour and does not want the viewer to think of Dexter as evil, but rather as a person performing a service for the public and for the greater good whom we should have sympathy for. Michael C. Hall's subtlely psychotic peformance is both measured and effective, which led to him being nominated for two Golden Globes for the role.

This is a must see and is one of the best American television shows out there. A refreshing change from the seriousness of crime shows such as CSI and Without a Trace, Dexter is a wonderfully innovative show and is essential viewing.
