Surprising and Uplifting! September 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
You know, I am one of those people who was a little scheptical to say the least when I heard that a film was to follow the SATC Season 6 finale. But like many was still drawn to get myself down to the cinema for curiosity if nothing else. And my goodness, was I wrong to doubt it. The Sex and the City movie is a wonderful film, filled with all the usual antics of our four favourite socialites but also with deeper underlying emotions and issues that were too often skipped over in the 50min episodes. This is a MUST SEE for all fans, and for people that may just be converted to one of the most successful comedy-dramas to come out of America in the last decade... Tears, Laughs and Jimmy Choos, any SATC girl's dream!
Really good :) ! September 21, 2008 22 out of 24 found this review helpful
I went to see this movie on opening night and went back 3 more times, I love it so much, it's made me cry every time, but definately gets more upbeat as it goes on and has some real funny bits, particularly with Charlotte. A really great end to an amazing programme, which I still miss! I'm so gutted it's over, but if you're still feeling the blues, this should pick you up.
I pre-ordered this 2 disc edition from Zavvi (sorry Amazon) and got it three days before release, which is how I'm reviewing it now, after finally getting round to watching it. I definately noticed the extra bits in the film, but obvoiusly they're nothing life changing, just cut out to make the film a shorter 2 and a half hours - yes, it's mammoth - but yeah, the extra bits don't make a real difference, the main scene added was a hallowe'en bit with Lily in, which was sweet, and a bit longer trying on Carrie's clothes from her wardrobe earlier in the film. So in my opinion, they don't add much, but the extra disc with interviews and on-set footage is good, and there's a nice long bit with Pat Field and the girls talking about the wardrobe, amongst other things, and there's directors commentary, but I haven't faced that as of yet, I've spent a whole afternoon playing around with the discs and stuff though, so it'll keep you amused for quite a while.
There's no need to go on and on about the actual film, I can't understand why any Sex and the City fan wouldn't like it but there has been mixed reviews I suppose. I admit there's a few bits that were less than perfect but it's a 2 and a half hour film, it can't all be breath taking! Definately a must for any fan - or even SATC virgins! As the premier approached, I found out two of my best friends had never watched the series, and they both came to see it more than once, and loved it :) Though, if you only want this edition for the longer version of the film I don't know if it's worth it, if you want to see the extra stuff on the second disc then go for it!
Enjoyyyy
Totally downbeat September 18, 2008 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
What a shame! As a hugh fan of the series I found this a very downbeat last last chapter to the wonderful story that was SATC. Without giving too much away, the majority of the movie was taken up with wallowing in quite depressing emotions, with very little happening in either the main or back stories to offset this. Unfortunately the end reprise came too late in the running time and consequently was not able to not resurect the mood set in the first quarter (let alone the original series). In addition the minor characters, especially Stani, were shamefully under used. Whatever happened to his previous partner? No attempt was even made to explain this. Sadly a triumph for the financial backers over what should have been a wonderful ending. Where was the sparkle? Where was the pazzazz? Where was the writing??? Charlotte was the only one vaguely true to form. Left with an empty feeling and the image that most of these ole gals were simply 'settling'. Horror of horrors! Deeply disappointing.
Like the cherry on a cake September 2, 2008 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have always been a fan of the series and have loved it from start to finish. As soon as I heard they was doing a film, I knew I HAD to see it! They really could not have done a better film and even my boyfriend who I dragged along to watch it loved it too! It feels like I've been waiting forever for this film to come out on DVD but its now here and I will definatly be buying my copy! Definatly have some tissues ready because if your not crying, you will be laughing. It's a truely fantastic film!
A Grreaaatt Chick Flick!! - A Definite for the Girls September 1, 2008 7 out of 14 found this review helpful
When SATC first came out I wasn't that keen on it, being totally honest. Then the film came out, I went to see it and I was well and truly hooked, Samantha being by far my favourite character!!
Since the seeing the film I have bought all the series on DVD and I now truly love it. I hope they do a sequal....
